Conservative setup

This option is very stable and well tested. What you get:

  • TV playback
  • MPEG, DVD, AVI acceleration with XvImage capable programs

To install:

  • Download and install XFree86 version 4.1.0. Make sure that it works.
  • Follow instructions to install binaries of ati.2 drivers.
  • Download, compile and install AVview.

To view TV: Start X, start AVview. Use AVview controls to select any adaptor that has "ATI" in it. Change channels, etc.

To view movies: Use Xine or any other Xv-capable video player for playback. MAKE SURE Xv support is enabled when compiling Xine

Here is a more detailed description of the installation process from Jon Reades.

Advanced setup

This is a relatively stable code from CVS. If you want to help with testing and perfecting the driver - this is the option to use. What you get:

  • Video capture (both continous and snapshots).

  • TV playback
  • MPEG, DVD, AVI acceleration with XvImage capable programs
  • Video capture (both continuous and snapshots)
  • The ability to output video signal to a TV.

To install:

  • Follow instructions to install devel branch of ati.2
  • Install km - preferably from CVS (backtrack if the latest CVS does not work)
  • Install AVview
  • Install drm-kernel

To view TV: same as in the conservative setup.

To view movies: same as in the conservative setup.

To capture movies and snapshots: use AVview "Capture" interface.

To enable TV-out: connect your TV to the computer. Turn the computer on, or, if it was running, reboot it.
